Vicky Saumell

My journey into ELT started when I was 18 years old and I started teaching to support my studies, which were totally unrelated to the teaching of English. A few years later I realized it was my passion and started to study for a language related career. I hold a Degree in Literary and Technical Translation from Asociacion Argentina de Cultura Inglesa (Argentina) and a Diploma in the Theory and Methodology of TESOL (Distinction) from Eurolink (UK). I have recently finished a Diploma in Educational Technology from Universidad Tecnologica Nacional (Argentina).

I was the Overall Coordinator of the EFL department at Instituto San Francisco de Asís, a private school in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for over 20 years. I currently work in Buenos Aires English High School, a bilingual primary school, where I carry out digital projects with all the classes, and I keep teaching upper secondary level students at Instituto San Francisco de Asis.

I am co-author of Teacher Development Interactive: Preparing for the Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT), author of Meeting Point 3 and 4: a guide to digital tools for the Storyline coursebook series and series consultant for English in Common coursebook series, all for Pearson. I have written two online professional development courses: the Primary Digital Teacher Training Course and the Secondary Digital Teacher Training Course; I have also written digital projects and materials for Eyes Open and Uncover coursebook series and I was a consultant for Kid's Box coursebook series, all for Cambridge University Press. I have also done training for Santillana and Macmillan.

I was the author and tutor of New Learning Environments for the Master’s in ELT at Universidad de La Sabana, Colombia, where I taught online from 2009 to 2013.

I am a member of The C Group, an initiative started in 2014. The C group is an independent and informal grouping of ELT professionals. It aims collaboratively to share information, promote reflection and inquiry, and encourage action through more creative and open teaching practices. http://thecreativitygroup.weebly.com/

I am actively involved with IATEFL (International Association of Teachers of English as a FOreign Language). I am the Coordinator of the Learning Technologies SIG, where I previously served as a community manager and treasurer.  I was also a committee member in IATEFL's Publications Committee from 2015 to 2020.

I am on the advisory committee for Laureate-Cambridge OLLReN (Online Language Learning Research Network).

I am also a freelance materials writer, teacher trainer and presenter at professional development conferences, especially on the integration of new technologies for language learning.

In 2017, I started my own educational consultancy group SaumellSimonetti with my colleague Silvana Simonetti. We currently offer educational services and consultancy both in English and Spanish, as well as self-paced online courses. You can find out more about this at www.saumellsimonetti.com
